Programme on Menstrual Hygiene

HSS Lankerchay organised a programme on Menstrual Hygiene under the ambit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, in collaboration with Baqirya Health Care and Research Centre & Volunteers of SHOQPA today in the Multipurpose Hall of the institution.
Dr. Narsreen Fatima, renowned gynaecologist and Vice President of Baqriya was the technical expert and resource person to grace the occasion. She is a doctor cum social activist, who always ready to contribute for the society relentlessly.

The programme commenced with the recitation of Purgi prayer by the group of students, written by Haji Ali Baba, one of the faculty of the institution. This was followed by the welcome and inaugural speech by worthy principal, Sh. Sadiq Ali. In his speech he paid heartfelt gratitude to the guest, Dr Nasreen Fatima for her selfless service to the community and always ready to address the issues of women specially the students related to health and hygiene. He also emphasised the various issues faced by the students and women folk in general related to menstrual hygiene. Lack of awareness and societal taboos made menstrual hygiene an issue not to discuss at any platform even withn the family, he added. Further he was emphasising the need of usage of pads and their disposal appropriately. In most of the cases, due to the lack of awareness often in the village vicinities, used pads are thrown in to the streams, open fields causing serious pollution and environmental threat to the region.
In the middle of the programme, Fiza Banoo, student of 9th class graced the occasion with the recitation of Naate-Sharif.
Dr. Nasreen Fatima, in her speech emphasised the need of active role to be played by the all the member of the society barring gender at bay when it comes to discuss and deliberate inter alia practical steps to tackle the issues of Menstrual Hygiene. She requested the head of the institution to have separate room and escort of female staff to address the menses of female students. Moreover, she also stressed to create a friendly relationship between students & the teachers to share and discuss any sort of problem including the menstrual hygiene preferably with female teachers. With a detailed power point presentation, she gave a scientific awareness to the students regarding the different phases of menstruation, including the preparations and steps to be taken by the female without taking mental pressure. She also distributed MENTRUAL CUP to the students and demonstrated to use it properly. Menstrual cup is a better scientific alternative to the menstrual pads. The most striking part of the programme that caught the eye was the Question -Answer Session where students interacted with the expert on different issues related to the topic. The programme was culminated with the Vote of thanks by Mehroon Nissa, student of 12th class. The entire programme was coordinated by Zeenat Fatima, who shouldered the responsibility of Stage Secretary.
